Eduardo Flores

FOUNDER AND ENGINEER AT LUMIS AUTOMATION

EDUARDO FLORES WILL NEVER FORGET the defining moment that pointed to his future in engineering: sitting in a backyard in Mexico, building a smart city out of dirt and sticks and wondering how to automate the bridges and infrastructure.

The California native’s childhood fascination with systems and innovation stuck with him and roughly 30 years later, he sits in an office in Orange County surrounded by robots at the company he founded, Lumis Automation.

After studying mechanical engineering at Chico State, Flores took a deep dive into mechatronics and built a reputation as someone who’s always in motion. His close ones would describe him as “driven and action-oriented”—a mindset that, he believes, “probably led up to what I’m doing now, which is multiple businesses and content creation. I just don’t stand still.”

Flores built his career on a few clear principles: keep learning, get hands-on, and make yourself valuable. These days, that means handling everything from sales and pricing proposals to designing parts and programming robots. “I do marketing, I built the website,” he said. “I use Photoshop for sketching out concepts. And yeah, I’m very active on social media too.”

In fact, Flores runs the popular Instagram page @engineeringmemesguy, where he racks up millions of views creating engineering-related content that blends humor, insight, and industry realities—often while juggling his responsibilities at Lumis.

“Never stop learning. Especially if you’re fresh, you need to get your hands on there. Nobody’s going to teach you. You’re going to have to put a lot of time into it. So don’t waste time, become the best you can be, and become valuable—so that if you leave a company, they’re going to miss you.”

But the road wasn’t always smooth. He recalled the pressure of stepping away from a stable corporate job to going solo, starting a business, wearing multiple hats, and having the pressure to win a project just to survive. That intensity sharpened his ability to write compelling proposals. “On a Friday night,” he remembered, “I’m like, I need to win this business.”

One major factor in Lumis Automation’s growth that sets it apart from others is its marketing approach. Flores blends business with content so closely that people can see directly behind the scenes at Lumis. “I’ve been told we’re like a new generation of business,” he said. “I think it’s because we mix social media with our marketing and our online presence… people trust us right away by looking at our work.”

Though he’s known to hundreds of thousands online as the “engineering memes guy,” Flores sees his mission as something much more impactful. “The world already has plenty of content creators. I want to be not just someone that’s making videos.”
