Black Engineers Who Made History

February is Black History Month and 2026 officially marks the celebration’s 100ᵗʰ year. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History first held a week-long celebration during the second week of February in 1926. Then in 1976, President Gerald Ford expanded the time frame by officially recognizing Black History Month.

In honor of the tremendous impact Black engineers have had on the engineering profession, we’re taking a look back at 10 individuals who advanced their respective fields—from nuclear energy to space and computing, and beyond.
